The DT&I Railroad started out in 1849 Iron Railroad . Due to the fact there were many
rich deposits of coal, pig iron and lumber in Lawarance County Ohio.TheWelther&Ziegler Company had a vast amount
of holdings around Waterloo,Ohio. They built the Waterloo& Eastern in 1874. In 1890 the W&E was rechartered as the
Ironton, Gallipolis & Eastern Railroad. The Springfield Southern Railroad finally incorprated the Iron Railroad. They carried
pig iron from many furnances in the area that melted it into useable steel. Some of the pig iron from the Hanging Rock area
was used in making the hull of the Civil War Ironclad the USS. Montior and made many hulls of battleships used in World War
I and II.The railroad was always in poor finanical shape Until Mr.Henry Ford bought it. Mr.Ford brought many new ideas to
the railroad such as making a 44 mile Electrification line. He also took many curves to make a smooth
mainline. The ICC and HenryFord had many problems that couldn't be worked out and he sold it to the Pennroad a part of
the PRR. It served Ohio well during two World Wars and the next 30 years.
History of My Hobby
Some hobbies have a rich history or background. While it's not necessary to know the background in order to enjoy the hobby,
it can sometimes enhance the experience. For example, a hobby site about mask making might include some information on this
page about the history of masks.
My Background
I might also use this page to describe my own personal history regarding my hobby. For example, if I'm describing boatbuilding,
I might mention how I first became interested in boats and how I acquired my skill.
